Indian War Edged Weapons: US M1880 Hunting Knife & US M1873 Entrenching Tool
Indian Wars
1) US Model 1880 Hunting Knife & Scabbard. 8.625" single edged spear point blade with median ridge, 2" wide at ricasso. 13.5" in overall length. Brass cross guard marked US/SPRINGFIELD on the reverse and with the serial number 1524 on the obverse. Turned wood grip with 17 grooves. Includes a brass mounted leather scabbard with the post-1878 Watervliet marked Prairie Belt hook modification.
2) US Model 1873 Entrenching Tool & Scabbard. 8.25" rounded tip, single edged spade blade with rolled edge spine, 3.5" wide at ricasso. 12.75" in overall length. Turned wood handle is 3.675" long with 16 grasping grooves and marked US on the face. Includes a brass mounted leather scabbard with iron suspension ring. Scabbard marked US on the upper left of the face.
