Custom single shot sporting rifle built on an early production Trapdoor rifle action retaining the early production high-arch breech and two-click tumbler. Equipped with combination folding leaf and buckhorn rear sight and a dovetailed German silver blade front sight. Lock with no markings remaining. Breech block with early markings consisting of MODEL/1873/{Eagle Head}/{Crossed Arrows}/US. Barrel marked .40-65 on top near breech and serial numbered 12/179 underneath to match the action. Sporting stock with Winchester-style sliding trapdoor in buttplate for cleaning rod storage, which is not marked "US". A nicely altered early Trapdoor Rifle for sporting purposes. {ANTIQUE}
