Lockplate is marked {Spread Winged Eagle} followed by U.S./SPRINGFIELD, while the breechblock is marked US/MODEL/1878. Left barrel struck V/P/{Eaglehead}/P with further R stamp. Stock displays legible circle p mark and boxed SWP/1880 cartouche of Samuel W. Porter. Mounts no sights and has had the hammer removed, the barrel plugged, and the locking lever cut off to render it nonfiring. Fitted with a blunted practice bayonet.
