Lot Description
Gil Hibben Elmer Keith Large Lockback Ram's Horn Knife
3.5" blade length. 9.4" overall with hilt. Straight clip point single edge lockback folding knife with ram's horn handle and nickel plated bolsters. Left blade is etched with the maker marking HIBBEN KNIVES/LA GRANGE, KY followed by the signature of Gil Hibben. Item comes in a leather wallet by Land Leder of Germany.
Gil Hibben began manufacturing custom knives professionally in 1956, following his discharge from the United States Navy. Now eighty-nine years of age, Hibben cast a giant shadow amongst contemporary knifemakers, having been possibly the first to use 440C stainless steel for custom knives. His creations have appeared in films like Rambo III, and in the hands of numerous screen legends from Steve McQueen to Sylvester Stallone. Perhaps most importantly, he directly inspired and instructed other famed knifemakers, including Harvey Draper, Buster Warenski, and Steven R. Johnson.
