Lot Description
Alex J. Collins Bowie Knife with Five Assorted Boot Knives
1.) 4.75" blade length. 10.5" overall with scabbard and hilt. Straight double edged Bowie knife with spearpoint tip and serrated spine mounting white and black synthetic G10 grips with skullcracker pommel, nylon lanyard, and leather sheath. Upper tang is engraved with the signature A.J. COLLINS. Alex J. Collins was an African-American knifemaker, and a member of the Knifemakers' Guild for more than 25 years by his passing in 2001. His blades are known for their unorthodox and elaborate grinds, made possible by his free hand approach, and well exemplified by pronounced medial ridge and hollow grinds of this example. When he attended shows, Collins sold his creations under the provocatively named "Kustom Krafted Knives."
2.) 2.125" blade length. 6" with sheath and hilt. Straight single edged drop point blade with mother of pearl grips and struck to right ricasso with GV marking of Gerry Vessella, a modern knifemaker known for producing quality carry knives both compact and folding.
3-6.) Lot of four boot knives. Blades range from 3.125" to 3.3" in length with makers including A.G. Russell, Franklin, and VH. All items come with leather sheaths.
