Martially Marked Remington New Model Army Revolver
American Civil War

.44" Caliber. 8" barrel length. SN: 115279. Blued metal finish overall with brass triggerguard, casehardened hammer, and mounting walnut grips with brass escutcheons. Single action six-shot percussion revolver featuring an octagonal barrel mounting topstrap rear notch and front blade sights, and a loading lever to the frame. Topstrap displays the marking PATENTED SEPT 14. 1858/E. REMINGTON & SONS ILION. NEW YORK U.S.A./NEW-MODEL. Rear face of the cylinder is numbered 5477 and shows an additional P initial. Interior of left grip panel is pencil marked with a serial number matching the frame and barrel. Cylinder is struck with G and C inspector initials. J initials struck into the base of each grip panel and the triggerguard, and on the left frame behind the recoil shield. Both sides of the frame marked C near forcing cone with a third C on the right barrel and W to the left. Left grip panel struck with the boxed GP cartouche of inspector George Palmer, who inspected arms at Remington from October, 1862 to December, 1864. {Antique}
