Lot Description

[Daguerreotypes] Two Sixth Plates

Pair of sixth-plate daguerreotypes of three kids and a man from Connecticut.

First is a priceless sixth-plate daguerreotype of three young street urchins full of themselves and ready to take on the world. The owner asked Joan Severa, author of Dressed for the Photographer, about the outfits and she informed them they “are all wearing pilot caps, tight vests and lightweight sock coats.” This was featured in The Daguerreian Annual of 1999.

Next is a sixth-plate daguerreotype with a brass mat stamp for R.D.O. Smith, Harford. According to Craig’s Daguerreian Registry, Smith was located in the State Bank Building in Hartford, CT in 1854-55. He claimed to make the first stereo daguerreotypes in CT.

Both are in half cases.

This is a multi-item lot, so special packing fees apply. See the shipping terms for details.
