SECOND EDITION. INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR. Hibbert was a Scottish antiquarian and geologist best known for his 1824 work Sketches of the Philosophy of Apparitions. Hibbert explored supernatural phenomena, offering rational and scientific explanations for experiences of ghosts and apparitions. Drawing on his knowledge of psychology and natural philosophy, he argued that such visions often stemmed from physical or mental conditions, such as illness, stress, or imagination, rather than from external supernatural causes.
