4 volumes, comprising: text, 3 volumes, small 4to (260 x 203 mm); atlas, small folio (286 x 229 mm). Half-titles; 14 folding engraved maps and plans. (Marginal soiling, spotting.) Contemporary quarter calf, marbled boards, smooth spines divided by gilt tooling, gilt-lettering in 2, atlas uncut (extremities rubbed, darkening and edge wear to atlas volume). Provenance: I.H. Fryer (bookplates).
FIRST EDITION. Beudant was sent on a scientific expedition to Hungary (and associated dominions) by the French court. His detailed account of this expedition contains descriptions of opal deposits and the opal mining industry. Sinkankas 612; Ward & Carozzi 205.
