Lot Description

[Science, Medicine & Mathematics] Watson, James D. The Pursuit of Happiness

Philadelphia, July 4, 2000. Seven-page inkjet-printed speech (on rectos only), inscribed on first sheet by Watson ("for Brian Salzberg"), and signed by him on final sheet ("Jim Watson"). Stapled at top left corner; small stain in top right corner of first sheet.

Inscribed and signed copy of American Nobel-Prize winning molecular biologist and geneticist James D. Watson's Liberty Medal speech, The Pursuit of Happiness, delivered on July 4th, 2000 in Philadelphia. Using the founding principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, Watson celebrates the pursuit of scientific knowledge, liberty of thought, and the importance of education for democracy to thrive--without which only ignorance and tyranny can take root.
