KAWAGUCHI, Ekai (1866-1945). Three Years in Tibet. Asdyar, Madras: The Theosophist Office, 1909.
8vo. With frontispiece portrait, 10 photogravure plates (including a panorama of Everest often not present with publisher's note tipped in), folding map & plates. Original publisher's red cloth gilt (some mottling to cloth). FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH, with a tipped-in publisher's notice stating that a large presentation plate of Lhasa was to accompany the volume (although it is not known to have been published). Ekai Kawaguchi is famous for his four journeys to Nepal, and two to Tibet. He was apparently the first recorded Japanese citizen to travel in either country. The first of his journeys to Tibet, recorded in this volume, was from 1900 to 1902. Yakushi K35. A VERY FRESH SET.
