8vo. With 2 folding maps (1 color-printed at end), 60 photographic illustrations on 36 plates & 8 reproductions of sketches. Original publisher's pictorial blue cloth (foot of spine slightly chipped, covers rubbed & slightly soiled; corners bumped). FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, without the author's preface. Taylor joined Scott's 'Terra Nova' expedition as geologist and led the Western Parties which were based at Hut Point, Cape Evans in 1911, and in 1911-1912 when they wintered over. "Taylor provides us with one of the most substantial accounts of Scott's Terra Nova expedition, and one of its finest book productions" (Taurus).
