2 volumes, 8vo. 40 plates, 3 plans (one double-page), 7 maps (3 folding, one double-page, 4 single-page), numerous illustrations in text. (A few leaves with tears crossing text repaired.) Rebound in gilt-lettered cloth (spines a little faded and slightly leaned). Provenance: Anthony R. Michaelis (bookplates). FIRST EDITION. "The original Norwegian text of Amundsen's pioneering march to the Pole and safe return, written before the fate of Scott and his men were known. As Amundsen's feat had considerable importance for newly independent Norway, his narrative was first published in serial form, to be bound up by purchasers after the last issue" (Taurus).
