(Lacking half-title, some occasional light foxing, mostly on tissue guards.) Contemporary tree calf gilt rebacked to style). Provenance: Melville Portal (armorial bookplate).FIRST EDITION, detailing this scientific journey to study the geology and mineralogy of Iceland. Mackenzie traveled with physicians Henry Holland and Richard Bright and botanist W. J. Hooker. Chapters on the history of the island, the people, life and medicine are by Bright and Holland; Hooker, who had made a previous journey to Iceland, published his own work on both expeditions in 1811.
