Lot Description
HORACE (65-8 B.C.). The Odes & Epodes of Horace. Boston: the Bibliophile Society for Members, 1901-1904.
9 volumes, 8vo (225 x 182 mm). Numerous etchings in two states (one printed on Japan vellum and SIGNED BY THE ARTIST). Contemporary tan crushed levant, covers with wide grapevine motif border gilt with green and blue morocco onlays, spines in 5 compartments with 4 raised bands, gilt-lettered in three, the rest with gilt and blue morocco onlay grapevine, turn-ins gilt with gilt grape leaf motif, top edges gilt, others uncut (spines slightly sunned, some very minor wear to a few joints, some spine ends with slight rubbing). A fine collected edition with plates by Howard Pyle, W. H. W. Bicknell, James Fagan, and Edmund H. Garrett.
