Lot Description

GIEGHER, Mattia. Li Tre Trattati. Padua: Paolo Frambotto, 1639. Oblong 4to (146 x 192 mm). Engraved portrait frontispiece of the author, 48 engraved plates (2 folding), numerous woodcut initials and tail-pieces. (Some light browning, staining, or offsetting.) Contemporary calf (old rebacking preserving original spine). Provenance: Ferdinand Reynold (signature to title and frontispiece). Later edition, first published in 1629, and later translated into German in 1642. Giegher worked for the German contingent at the University of Padua. His three treatises deal with food carving, table serving, and napkin folding. RARE.
