2 volumes, 8vo (230 x 143 mm). Portrait frontispieces, numerous illustrations, portraits and maps, some folding. (offsetting or spotting, a few light stains.) Publisher's green pictorial gilt-stamped cloth (wear to extremities, corners bumped, hinge starting). FIRST EDITION. Sheridan was a Union general in the Civil War and his career was noted for his rapid rise to major general as well as his close association with Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant.
