Lot Description

ALKEN, Henry Thomas (1785-1851). Symptoms of Being Amused. London: Thomas McLean, 1822. Oblong 4to (260 x 360 mm). Hand-colored etched title and numerous lithographic plates, many on paper watermarked "J Whatman Turkey Mill" 1821-1822. (Approximately 33 mm. tear on one text leaf, spotting and offsetting.) Modern half red morocco, gilt (dampstaining to upper cover, edges worn with associated losses, boards and spine faded). The plates depict riders and sportsmen caught in every variety of attitude.
