Palmer carried out the publication of this work after his father's death: "I proposed to embellish an edition of Milton's Minor Poems with reproductions, carefully prepared by my own hand, of ten drawings in Mr. Valpy's collection, besides one or two examples existing elsewhere, and to publish the volume as a companion to the Virgil (introduction, p.xix).
