[WASHINGTON, Lawrence Augustine (1774-1824), his copy]. A volume from the library of George Washington's nephew. MEASE, James. Philadelphia: David Hogan, 1813. Volume III only, 8vo (228 x 130 mm). (Browning and spotting throughout.) Contemporary calf, smooth spine gilt, tan morocco lettering-piece gilt (some overall wear, particularly to hinges). Signed by Lawrence Augustine Washington and dated 24 March 1815. After the death of his father, Lawrence lived with George Washington for a while. Washington paid for he and his brother to attend Georgetown; they were "wild and uncontrollable and a constant trial to Washington" according to Ron Chernow.
