2 volumes, Large 8vo (250 x 149 mm). Numerous engraved illustrations and maps ("Outline Map of Indian Localities in 1833." linen-backed). (Creasing to folding map, spotting throughout.) Modern half red morocco, top edges gilt, original cloth bound in (joints and spine worn, rubbing with associated losses to extremities). Fifth edition, first published in 1841. Catlin was the first artist to travel broadly among the Plains Indians of North America and create an important collection of paintings and drawings to illustrate their customs and artifacts.
