Lot Description
TERENTIUS AFER, Publius (185-159 B.C.). The Comedies of Terence. George Colman, translator. London: for T. Becket and P.A.De Hondt, 1768.
2 volumes, 8vo (199 x 126 mm). Engraved folding frontispiece, 7 engraved plates (6 folding), 2pp. advertisements. (Some light spotting, primarily to preliminary leaves.) Contemporary tan calf gilt, spines in 5 compartments with 6 raised bands, red morocco gilt lettering-pieces (some light wear to extremities, a few small wormholes, discreet early leather library at foot of spines). Second edition, revised and corrected, of Colman's tranlation, which "was received with signal favour, and did much to raise Colman in public estimation" (DNB).
