8vo (173 x 118 mm). Half-titles, electrotyped frontispieces, numerous illustrations after John Tenniel. (Some scant spotting, otherwise fine). Uniformly bound in modern red half morocco gilt, edges gilt. FIRST EDITION, FIRST STATE of Through the Looking-Glass with the misprint "wade" for "wabe" in the second line of the poem "Jabberwocky" on p.21; twenty-fifth thousand of Alice's Adventures.[Laid in:] Envelope addressed to Sir J. Paget in Carroll's hand in his customary purple ink; envelope addressed to Mrs. Adolphus Tenniel in John Tenniel's hand with his stamped monogram on flap.
