Lot Description
A Fine Renaissance Revival Gold, Silver, Multi Gem and Polychrome Enamel Pendant, Augusto Castellani, Circa 1860,
consisting of a central pear shape ruby set within a domed section accented at the diagonals with scalloped recesses and white enamel palmettes, the lower polished gold dome with black enamel curvilinear tracing, the leaf shape surround of scrolled Acanthus leaves in dark green enamel and containing one oval cabochon cut ruby at the top, the base embellished with a sculpted grotesque facade, the pendant supporting a detachable drop with rope texture wirework accent, six cabochon cut gems, and a baroque drop shape pearl, the reverse engraved with foliate motif and centrally accented with a glazed compartment, all suspended from a meshwork chain of later addition.Stamp: (Maker's mark of Embossed double opposed C's for Castellani).Accompanied by a fitted case.Provenance:For an extremely similar example, please see the pendant from the British Royal Collection attributed to Augusto Castellani and most likely acquired by Queen Mary.
