(HOMER) CASTELLION, SEBASTIEN
Homeri opera graeco-latina, quae quidem nunc extant, omnia. Hoc est: Ilias, Odyssea, Batrachomyomachia, et Hymni .... Basel: Nicolaum Brylingerum, 1561.Block-stamped pigskin boards (34 cm. tall). Bookplate of Andre Phillipe, Archiviste-Paleographe to front pastedown, along with that of University of Chicago Library. Damp-staining to margins, effecting text on some pages. Contents collated as complete, with 292 numbered pages for the Illiad, followed by a further 317 numbered pages for the Odyssey, with Latin maginalia throughout the latter. A bilingual edition prepared for educational purposes, with Greek and Latin text en face. In his preface, Castellion warns readers not to elevate Homer's works above sacred writings.
