Lot Description

Amsterdam, circa 1644.Hand-colored engraved map (40 x 51 cm., sight); matted and framed. With French text on verso. Depicting the Southeast as it extends from the southern part of Chesapeake Bay to Northern Florida. Improving on the Hondius map of 1606, with Chesapeake Bay correctly indicated as a large bay and the Carolinas and Georgian coasts depicted more accurately. Bar scale above the neat line on the lower margin with cartouche held by cherubim; left cherub with tail.
