Lot Description

ELIOT, T. S. Autographed letter signed ("T.S. Eliot"), one page, on personal letterhead, December 8, 1945, London. To Charles Cyrus Hare, thanking him for his praise of Four Quartets, he states: "They give no less pleasure for being recognized by me as exaggerated, though, like Sherlock Holmes, I am ready to praise myself when I deserve it." With an original envelope, address docketed by Eliot, and signed. Creased in sixths.[Together with:] correspondence pertaining to the above inquiry from Mr. Hare, through his colleague, Constance Nelson, who writes to Eliot requesting a letter.
