Autographed letter signed ("T.S. Eliot"), one page, on personal letterhead, December 8, 1945, London. To Charles Cyrus Hare, thanking him for his praise of Four Quartets, he states: "They give no less pleasure for being recognized by me as exaggerated, though, like Sherlock Holmes, I am ready to praise myself when I deserve it." With an original envelope, address docketed by Eliot, and signed. Creased in sixths.[Together with:] correspondence pertaining to the above inquiry from Mr. Hare, through his colleague, Constance Nelson, who writes to Eliot requesting a letter.
