(BAYNTUN, COSWAY-STYLE) JACKSON, CATHERINE CHARLOTTE, LADY
The Last of the Valois, and Accession of Henry of Navarre. London: Richard Bentley and Son, 1888.2 vols. 8vo, bound in the Cosway-style in full red morocco gilt by Bayntun with inset painted porcelain miniatures of the Duc de Montmorency (vol. I) and Catherine de Medici (vol. II) to upper covers, a.e.g., silk endpapers, red cloth felt-lined slipcases, silk ties, gilt turn-ins. Originally illustrated with nine engraved portraits, this set is extra-illustrated with 46 additional plates, of which 14 are in color. Each volume with bookplates of Albert Henry Wiggin, Lynde Selden and another Selden family bookplate; several bookplates are no longer attached, leaving adhesive residue on an endpaper; minimal rubbing to the extremities, spine edges and a few tiny scuffs to the spines; light wear to slipcases.
