Lot Description

A Chinese Gilt-Decorated Red-Lacquered Throne Chair 18TH/19TH CENTURY the reticulated back panel carved to depict a central Chakra flanked by two confronting fu lions, the reverse decorated with numerous flower heads, two side panels having openwork decoration each depicting a sinuous chilong bearing a floral stem in its mouth, the crest rail and side rails decorated with archaistic dragons and lotus scroll, the seat painted with a ferocious forward facing five-clawed dragon chasing the flaming pearl circled by four writhing dragons, reserved on a lotus scroll background, above a tall waist having reticulated panels with chilong and a band of lappet leaves, the shaped apron with further dragons and lotus scrolls, all raised on four cabriole legs with lion masks terminating in claw and ball feet joined by a low stretcher. Height 43 x width 33 1/2 x depth 28 inches.
