HANMER, MEREDITH The Ecclesiasticall Historie of Euagrius Scholasticus a Noble Man of Antioch and One of the Emperors Lieutenant; Comprised in Sixe Books... [Bound with:] The Ecclesiasticall Historie of Socrates Scholasticus, Comprised in Seven Books... London: Richard Field, 1607.[12], 598, [20] pages. 3 works in one. 4to, rebound in black cloth, gilt-lettered spine. First edition. A collection of translations issued as one book. Richard Field was a Stratford contemporary of Shakespeare's responsible for the printing and publishing of many of his works, including his first two published works, Venus and Adonis and The Rape of Lucrece. The present work is another example of the collaboration between the two men and the influence of Field on Shakespeare which is evident in many of his published plays and lesser writings (David Kathman). Minor rubbing to boards; ends and corners bumped; some dampstaining to extremities of some leaves; scattered marginalia; some foxing.
