HARTE, BRET The Luck of Roaring Camp, and Other Sketches. Boston: Fields, Osgood, 1870.8vo, burnt orange cloth, gilt-lettered spine, housed in quarter morocco slipcase. First edition, first issue. With autographed letter signed ("Bret Harte"), two pages, Bailey's Hotel [London], n.d., tipped to f.f.e.p. To "Mr. Chatto" [possibly Andrew Chatto of Chatto & Windus], declining an invitation. Author George Barr McCutcheon copy, with his bookplate tipped to the front pastedown. Minor rubbing and edgewear to boards; inner hinges starting; few finger smudge marks to some leaves.
