FIRST EDITION of this uncommon account, written by a woman, of her family's settlement in Pike County, Illinois. Burlend's account describes her family's journey from Leeds to America, where they arrived in New Orleans and traveled up the Mississippi to the midwestern frontier, and describes homesteading as a pioneer on the prairie.
