Paris: Emile-Paul Freres, 1923. First and limited edition, #114/700 numbered copies on Rives paper (from a total edition of 765). 8vo. Presentation copy, inscribed by Jean Hugo on half-title to his friend, Richard Wattenmaker: "For Richard Wattenmaker who knows the secret of these illustrations Jean Hugo Mas de Fourques 22. x. 69". Illustrated with an etched frontispiece and seven etched plates, by Valentine Hugo (although, Valentine's name crossed out on title-page, with "Jean" written in pencil); each plate with green tissue guard. Publisher's stiff printed wrappers, lightly faded.

Illustrated with hand-colored frontispiece, vignette on title-page, 11 hand-colored plates, and eight hand-colored head-pieces, by Hugo. Publisher's stiff printed wrappers; light toning and scattered spotting to text and plates; in publisher's pictorial paper-covered board portfolio, ties intact, toned and lightly worn.
