Lot Description

A Large Chinese Painted Pottery Cocoon Jar, Han Dynasty
漢 彩陶茧形罐
Han Dynasty (206 B.C. - 220 A.D.)

The large and well-potted olive-shaped body is separated with accurately impressed encircled lines into various registers. The painted decoration is executed in pinkish-red, ochre, and white, centered by an abstract cloud pattern painting, all supported by a splayed foot, also with a slightly sloped neck topped by a flared mouth.
Height 15 3/4 x length 17 3/8 in., 40 x 44 cm.
