Richard Nixon purportedly had a personal relationship with Martin Luther King, Jr., and Coretta Scott King, having met the couple at a 1957 independence celebration in Ghana when Nixon was vice president. After the death of Dr. King, Nixon traveled to Atlanta to meet privately with Coretta Scott King. Reports indicate that he also visited the home of Reverend Martin Luther King, Sr., to pay his respects.
