[ENSLAVEMENT]. Pair of receipts for an identified enslaved mother & child. Natchez, MS, 1856-1857.
2 manuscript receipts for what seems to be the same enslaved woman, Susan, and her son, George, purchased from George Dicks by Joseph Farnsham, comprising:
8 x 4 3/8 in. manuscript receipt for $400 paid by Joseph Farnsham to George Dicks for a "Negro Woman Susan & her Son George now in Said Farnsham's possession." Natchez, [MS], 2 September 1856.
7 3/4 x 3 1/2 in. manuscript receipt for $200 paid by Joseph Farnsham to George Dicks for a "negro woman Susan and child George." Natchez, [MS], 2 May 1857.
Together, 2 manuscript receipts. Each with creasing, some chipping/wear to edges, toning and discoloration, minor separations.
