[ENSLAVEMENT]. 1846 letter from LA wife asking for separation of property incl. 7 enslaved people.
Letter from Emily A. Stevens, addressed to "Messieurs Ammonet," Richmond, LA. 28 March 1842.
One page, 9 3/4 x 7 3/4 in., bifolium. Docketing to terminal leaf.
Ms. Stevens writes to "Messieurs Ammonet," asking to bring suit in the next available court term against John B. Stevens, her husband, "for a separation of property as he is insolvent." She explains that the property consists of "seven negroes" and a horse, then lists the enslaved persons by name and age.
