8 x 10 in. glass plate negatives featuring scenes and subjects at Wilberforce University including a group portrait of the tennis and basketball teams, a view of young women holding long sticks, apparently practicing a dance routine of some sort, a graduation, classroom images, and more.
Founded in 1856 in Wilberforce, Ohio, Wilberforce (College) University is a historically black university affiliated with the African Methodist Episcopal Church. It was the first of its kind of be owned and operated by African Americans, purposed to educate young African Americans with a traditional curriculum focused on liberal arts.
