[PHOTOGRAPHY]. The Black Photographers Annual. Three (of four) published volumes. 1973-1976.
CRAWFORD, Joe, editor and publisher. The Black Photographers Annual for 1973 (Vol. I, copyrighted 1972), 1974 (Vol. II), and 1976 (Vol. III). Brooklyn, NY: Black Photographers Annual Inc. 8vo (10 x 8 1/2 in.). The plentifully illustrated volumes highlight the work of more than 75 Black photographers.
The Black Photographers Annual was published from 1973-1980 by a group of African American artists in New York City. The idea emerged from the Kamoinge Workshop, a collective comprised of African American photographers. In her preface for the first Annual, novelist Toni Morrison wrote, "It was conceived as a commitment to the community of Black artists, executed as a glorious display of their craft and their perception..."
