Lot Description

[CRIME & PUNISHMENT]. CDV "mug shot" of William Jackson, arrested for burglary in Carlyle, IL. [1900].

2 1/4 x 3 1/2 in. CDV on larger cardstock mount (some wear to print, soiling and wear to mount including loss to upper right corner). The subject is featured wearing a striped shirt and suspenders, looking directly into the camera. Mount recto inscribed "#683." Verso with printed "fill-in-the-blank" identification queries including the subject's name, alias, age, etc., with some of the information accomplished in manuscript.

Jackson's name is followed by the partial word, "col," meaning the subject is "colored." Jackson was 22 years old, 5 feet and "8 or 9" inches tall, weighted 135-140 pounds, and was arrested on 11 August 1900 for burglary in Carlyle, IL. His trade is listed as "Barber," and the card is signed by "John T. O'Neill, Sheriff."
