Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS]. A group of 39 RPPCs of Native American subjects, incl. Geronimo.
The lot includes the following: 39 real photo postcards, 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 in., or smaller, most unused, featuring Native American subjects, including studio portraits, informal outdoor views, ceremonies, and dwellings. Many of the scenes are identified in the negative.
Highlighted titles/scenes include: 3 views of Geronimo, 2 of which are copyrighted 1909 by Martin Post Card Co., including "Geronimo, The Greatest Indian Chief - As a U.S. Prisoner," and "Geronimo Carving Buffalo Meat for his Indians." -- 12 additional views copyrighted by Martin Post Card Co., including "The Four Greatest Chiefs Now Living," "Cowboy Trading with Indians," "Gambling Practised [sic] by the American Indians," "Crazy Snake Ready for a Charge on Okla. Settlers, 1908," and "Indian Bark House - Practising [sic] Shooting." -- "Chief Light Horseman & Law Makers at Council House of Seminole Nation, 1904, Wewoka, Oklahoma." -- A Native woman breastfeeding two children simultaneously. -- "Mrs. Blue Eyes Drunk...Yelow Face has some Whiskey Also," taken by E.D. Hemphill. -- Chiefs Hicks Little Bear and Burned All Over, by Sears. -- "Indians Roasting Dogs Near Ponca, Okla." -- "Principal Indian Participants in Custer Battle," featuring composite view of Shot in the Eye, Red Horse, Low Dog, Crow King, Chief Gall, and Sitting Bull. -- Thomas Crow, Sioux Chief. -- "Custer Massacre," copyrighted 1909 by Williams. -- Chief Iron Hail and Wife. -- Quanah Parker. -- John White, one of Custer's Scouts. -- Indian Police officer and his child. -- 2 portraits of Gowongo, Mohawk, Seneca playwright and actor.
