Diplomatic appointment signed ("James Buchanan"), as President. Washington, DC, 31 August 1860. 12 x 14 in. (sight) partly printed document. Embossed seal affixed to lower left. Countersigned by Secretary of State Lewis Cass. Matted and framed together with an 8 1/2 x 7 in. (sight) engraving of James Buchanan and an image of the seal of the president of the United States, approx. 28 x 19 1/2 in. overall.
President Buchanan appoints Werner Dressel consul of the electorate to Hesse-Kassel.
