Lot Description

VAN BUREN, Martin (1782-1862). Secretarially signed land grant. Washington, D.C., 27 February 1841.

Land grant secretarially signed ("Martin Van Buren") by President Martin Van Buren. 1p, 16 x 10 in., granting 160 acres to James Eckford of Lowndes County, Mississippi. With seal of the General Land Office affixed at lower left.

Lands awarded to Eckford in 1841 were likely made available by the forcible removal of Mississippi's Native American population as part of the United State's Indian Removal Policy.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
