Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A group of Union cases and collar boxes with varying designs.
3 collar boxes including Masonic Emblems [Berg 8-13] (loosening hinges, alignment, general wear throughout); The Deer and the Pine Tree [8-18] (hinges screwed into lid and base, general wear, retains Baldwin & Webb sticker to lid interior); and Clipper Ship [8-23] (more moderate wear throughout, remnant of sticker to front of box). Each with missing portion of closure mechanism.
15 Union cases including a quarter plate example, Roger deCoverly and the Gypsies' Fortune [1-38]; one double ninth plate example, Children Playing with Toys [1-48]; 3 sixth plate examples including The Tight Cork [1-109] and 2 with geometric or scroll designs; 3 square ninth plate examples including Angel Holding Cornucopia [1-141], The Lovers [1-153], and a floral example; 2 oval ninth plate examples with floral designs; 2 square sixteenth plate examples with floral designs; one oval sixteenth plate example with floral design; and 2 oreo cases. All cases contain images. Conditions vary.
[With:] 2 loose tintype plates including a 5 x 7 in. portrait of a child posing in a fringed studio chair, wearing a beaded necklace, and holding a cased image in her hand; and a 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 in. portrait of a young lady with curled hair, signed in ink to upper left, "Smith[?]"
