Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 24 quarter and sixth plate daguerreotypes of men of varying ages.

Quarter plate vignetted bust portrait of a middle-aged man with a continuous beard and sideburns. He wears a necktie tied in a large bow and look directly into the camera. (Tarnishing to edges, some light spotting, light fading; original seals.) Housed in a separated leatherette case (separated but held together with transparent tape, major surface loss throughout). -- Sixth plate portrait of an older gentleman. (Tarnishing, spotting, dust particles abundant; no preserver present.) Housed in a leatherette case with an oval albumen portrait of a young woman and a manuscript travel log with entries spanning 1847-1857. -- Sixth plate portrait of an adolescent young man seated next to a table with part of a book's spine visible to the viewer's right. (Tarnishing to edges, some minor spotting, clouding, oxidation to mat; no preserver present, resealed.) Housed under mat and glass only; no preserver or case. -- And 21 others including 10 quarter plate examples and 11 sixth plate examples. Conditions and housings vary. -- Together, 24 daguerreotypes of men of varying ages.
