Lot comprised of 13 CDVs, including the following subjects:

George B. McClellan, Union general. Boston, MA: J.W. Black. -- Ulysses S. Grant, Union general and US President (2). First, seated portrait of General Grant. Uncredited. Second, image after an engraving of General Grant. Verso with printed advertisement, "A Modern Wonder! Please Examine our Goods, Department 7." This was purportedly distributed as a department store advertisement when Grant served as president. -- John A. Dahlgren, US admiral. New York: C.D. Fredricks & Co. -- Lew Wallace, Union general, author of Ben-Hur. New York: Brady, ca 1862. -- Rebel Army of Virginia. Composite view comprised of portraits of 7 Southern Generals, including Lee, Beauregard, Longstreet, Fitzhugh Lee (Gen. Robt. E. Lee’s nephew), Breckinridge, Hill, and Ewell. New York: E. & H.T. Mathew Brady, E. & H.T. Anthony. -- George D. Prentice, slaveholder, newspaper writer and editor, cofounder of the Louisville Journal. Prentice supported the Union in the 1850s, but he disagreed with many of its policies during the Civil War. He joined a group in 1861 that urged Kentucky not to secede from the Union but to establish itself as a neutral party in the war. Following the war, Prentice also opposed many of the Reconstruction policies, and he expressed his discontent through his editorials. New York: E. & H.T.
