12mo (178 x 108 mm). Half-title. (Some spotting throughout.) Original brown cloth gilt (small closed tear to front free endpaper, light wear to spine ends); modern half morocco slipcase.
FIRST EDITION, first issue with p.52 numbered. Snow-Bound: A Winter Idyl is a long narrative poem presented as a series of short stories told by a family during a snowstorm. Intended as a reconciliation narrative following the Civil War, Whittier's poem sold 7,000 copies on its first day of release and is considered to be his most enduring work. BAL 21862.
