Original navy cloth gilt (hinges starting, slight wear to extremities); dust jacket (clipped not affecting price, separations along folds and some tears with cellotape repairs verso, slight toning). Provenance: Esther Forbes Hoskins (1891-1967), American author (inscription from Carl Sandburg on the front free endpaper).
FIRST "REGULAR" EDITION, preceded by the De Luxe Edition. INSCRIBED BY SANDBURG TO FORBES: "For Esther Forbes Hoskins with salutations Carl Sandburg." Forbes is best known for her novel Johnny Tremain, winner of the Newbery Award. Forbes also wrote the definitive biography of Paul Revere, Paul Revere and the World He Lived In, for which she won the 1943 Pulitzer Prize for History.
