BLACKSTOCK, Gregory (1946-2023). The WW2 Yakovlev Russian Fighters. 2011.
Graphite, colored pencil, and permanent marker on paper. Visible area: 46 x 18 in. Frame: 49 1/2 x 21 3/4 in.
The Yakovlev Yak model was a Soviet fighter used primarily during the Second World War. The plane was well-liked among Soviet pilots, as it had a high power-to-weight ratio and was easy to maneuver. Over the course of the war the Yak-3 brought the Soviets 273 aerial victories against the formidable Luftwaffe.
