A Cobalt Decorated 'Bird' Stoneware Harvest or Field Jug Attributed to Wingerter Pottery
Akron, Ohio, 19th Century
identified Joseph Patton, Copley, Ohio.
Height 9 inches.
According to U.S. Federal Census records from 1880, a Joseph Patton (1866-1892) is identified as a teenager who "works in harness shop." The listing includes his mother and an older brother, John, recorded as a pottery worker, although the name or location of the pottery is unnoted.
A similar jug, likely made by the same hand or at least at the same pottery, was offered as Lot 229 in Hindman's American Furniture, Folk, and Decorative Arts Auction, March 15, 2024.
